If restricted, alerts and connectivity may fail. Keep it set to 'Always Allow'.

Does the Sync app run in the background?

Yes, it runs in the background to automatically connect and provide alerts.

Why does the app need location permissions?

Location is required for accurate alerts, syncing, and background operation.

Does Pure One need a smartphone?

No. Pure One has a built-in SIM and works independently, but a compatible smartphone is required for onboarding and managing settings.

Why am I not receiving alerts?

Check subscription status, GPS signal, location permissions, device settings, and perform a full smartphone restart.

How often is the database updated?

The database is updated daily and in real-time with continuous improvements.

This is all thanks to the direct connection to The Highways Agency that Road Angel utilises.

How easy is it to fit the Road Angel Pure?

With our wireless windscreen mount, it has never been easier to fit a Road Angel Pure into your car. If you choose to have your device hardwired, we recommend always seeking professional advice from an auto electrician.

Why does my computer not recognise my Road Angel Pure?

Make sure your Pure is connected to your PC or Mac using the lead provided in the box and download the Updater Software from our Support Center. Once the Pure has connected to your computer a message should display on screen – Connected to PC. Please contact our support team on 0330 320 3030 for more information and support.

Does the Road Angel Pure have to be hardwired in?

It may do, as long as you have positioned it in the correct place. Please note that the Road Angel Pure does not work in vehicles with solar reflective windscreens. However, if you experience problems with GPS reception, please contact our support team on 0330 320 3030 for more information and support.

Why does my Road Angel Pure say searching for satellites?

Searching for satellites can take longer than normal after a firmware update.

1. This is normal behaviour as the ephemeris data (positions of satellites) is reset. This also happens when a Pure is switched off for more than six hours.

2. Please take into account that we don’t make the GPS module, and this issue is common with other GPS devices after an update or being switched off for more than six hours.

3. We have had abnormal weather as seen on the weather forecast due to the jet stream, this effects the GPS signal.

4. If the Pure has been off for 6 hours or more the device can take longer to satellite search, however we have implemented AGPS (Assisted GPS) whereby once the pure is on the mobile network and synced to our servers the ephemeris data is sent to the Pure to speed up the process.

If you are suffering with excessive satellite searching please check you have a clear view of the sky and haven’t recently changed car to one with a heated/solar screen.

How do I configure the settings for my Pure?

Depending on the Pure model, update via the mobile app or by connecting the device to a PC or Mac using the updater software.

Can the Road Angel Pure windscreen mount be moved between cars?

No, it uses an adhesive mount, but additional mounts are available.

Why does my Road Angel Pure have low battery after a firmware update?

Charge the device via mains power after updating, as USB power may be insufficient.

Why is my database version different to the one on the website?

This may be due to update syncing or subscription status—ensure your device is connected and up to date.

What are the password requirements for my dash cam WiFi? (PSTI Compliance)

Your dash cam WiFi password must be 8–12 characters long, include a combination of letters and numbers, and must not be a common or easily guessable password.

Why can’t I connect to my dash cam via WiFi?

Your dash cam creates a local WiFi connection (not internet). You must be within 5–10metresof the vehicle. It is normal for the connection to show 'No Internet Access'.

Why does Apple CarPlay or Android Auto stop the app from connecting?

Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto use WiFi and Bluetooth, which can interfere with the dash cam's connection. Disable them or turn off auto-connect to resolve this.

Why does the WiFi disappear when the ignition is off?

This is normal. The dash cam enters parking mode and may disable WiFi to reduce power consumption and as an additional privacy/security measure.

What SD card should I use?

Use an automotive-grade microSD card (Class 10 / U3 minimum). Standard cards can cause freezing, errors, or corrupt footage.

Why is my dash cam not recording properly?

Common causes include SD card compatibility or formatting issues, or power problems. Format the card in the camera and ensure a proper power supply using a compact, high-spec automotive-grade SD card.

Can I use the dash cam without professional installation?

Yes, via a 12V socket. For parking mode, a compatible hardwire kit isrequired.

Why isn’t parking mode working?

Parking mode requires permanent power and ignition power via a compatible hardwire kit. It will not work on a standard 12V socket alone.

How do I connect to the Halo via Wi-Fi?

Download our App from the Google Play store of Apple Appstore. Launch the app and press the ‘+’ icon in the top right corner, then follow the instruction that will be shown in the app. The default Wi-Fi password is set to ‘1234567890’.

Why can't I use live preview, playback footage or download videos?

Live preview and video downloads require a direct Wi‑Fi connection between your phone and the dashcam. If your phone is still connected to mobile data or another Wi‑Fi network, the app won’t be able to access the camera. Connect to the Halo’s Wi‑Fi network first, then reopen the app.

Why isn't my Halo Pro showing my speed?

Speed data only appears when the Halo Pro has a stable GPS connection. If no speed is displayed, the GPS may still be acquiring signal, or the vehicle may be in an area with weak coverage such as tunnels, underground car parks, or dense urban environments.

Which way should I orientate my Halo Pro's rear camera?

The rear camera should be mounted centrally on the rear window with the lens facing outward and the cable exiting from the top. This ensures the image is recorded the right way up and aligns correctly with the front camera’s field of view.

How do I format my SD card?

You can format your SD card directly through the Halo app or via the dashcam’s menu. Make sure the camera is powered on, then open the app and select the format option in the settings. Keep the device powered during formatting and never remove the card while the process is running.

Should I restart my smartphone if I’m having connection issues with my Dash Cam or Pure Sync?

Yes. A full restart can resolve WiFi, Bluetooth, and app-related issues.

Why is my dash cam not connecting when using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto?

These systems interfere with WiFi dash cam connections across all brands.

How do I fix Apple CarPlay / Android Auto issues?

Disable wireless connections or auto-join features so the phone can connect directly to the dash cam.

When should I connect my phone to the dash cam?

Only when viewing footage, downloading videos, or changing settings.

Does the dash cam rely on my smartphone?

No. It operates independently, powered by the car and a compatible automotive-grade SD card.

Why does my phone disconnect automatically?

Phones prioritise internet-connected networks and OEM convenience protocols, so switching away from the dash cam's WiFi is normal.

Why does the app struggle to reconnect?

This may be due to background restrictions or interference with CarPlay/Android Auto.

Why is there a reflection in the windscreen?

This is caused by dashboard reflection or sunlight. Adjust the angle and or use a polarising filter.

Why are number plates not always readable?

Factors include speed, frame rate, settings, lighting, and motion blur, even on high-resolution cameras.

Why does my dash cam freeze or restart?

Usually due to SD card or power issues. Replace the card and check the wiring.

Why does my vehicle show errors with OBD?

Some vehicles (BMW, Mercedes, EVs) may trigger warnings. Use a fuse tap, hardwire instead.

Can I leave my dash cam plugged in?

Yes, if using a proper hardwire kit or battery pack with voltage protection.

Do Road Angel Pure devices work in Europe?

Road Angel Pure, Pure Touch, and Pure One devices are primarily designed for UK use and do not currently offer full connectivity or database coverage within EU territories.

Will Road Angel Pure devices receive EU support?

The Road Angel Pure Sync app is planned to support selected EU territories, including Germany and France, fromQ4 2026, subject to local laws and regulatory approval.

Why are speed camera alerts referred to as “Safety Zones” in Europe?

In many European countries, the use of traditional “speed camera alerts” is restricted by law.

To remain compliant, alerts are instead provided as “Safety Zone” notifications, similar toother legally compliant driver awareness systems used across Europe.

Will my device still function in Europe?

Yes — your device will still:

  • Power on
  • Track GPS
  • Operate normally

However, live alerts, connectivity, and database coverage may be limited or unavailable, depending on the country.

Why are there restrictions on speed camera alerts in Europe?

Speed camera detection and alerting laws vary significantly across EU countries.

Road Angel fully complies with all local legislation, which means:

  • Some features may be restricted
  • Alert terminology may change (e.g. “Safety Zones”)
  • Functionality may differ by region
Which Road Angel products will support Europe first?

Initial EU support will be delivered via the Pure Sync & Road Angel app, rather than standalone devices.

Support will be rolled out in line with:

  • Legal compliance
  • Territory-specific regulations
  • Database availability
