Speeding fine code
Depending on the offence you have committed the minimum fine for a speeding offence is £100 and 3 penalty points added to your licence.
If you have been caught by a speed camera, you will be sent a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) within 14 days and a section 172 notice, within 28 days. This must be returned to inform the police who was driving the car. You will then either be sent a Fixed penalty notice (FPN) or a letter telling you to go to court.
If stopped by the police you may receive any of the following:

- - An FPN
- - A court order, with a letter explaining what you are requested to do.

What is the speed awareness course?
The speed awareness course is one way of handling a speeding fine. This course is available to individuals if this is their first time speeding or if they have not been convicted of speeding in the last 3 years. However, to be eligible for the awareness course these are certain requirements you must pass.
The speed awareness course is only available to people who have broken the speed limit by 10% plus 2-9MPH. The benefit of taking the speed awareness course is that even though the cost is around the same as a fixed penalty no points are put on your license when you attend the course.
